GLA:D Canada

The GLA:D® program (Good Life with osteoArthritis in Denmark) is an evidence-based initiative designed to help individuals with hip and knee osteoarthritis (OA) manage their symptoms and improve their quality of life. Developed by researchers, the GLA:D® program combines education and exercise to provide a comprehensive approach to osteoarthritis management.

GLA:D Assessment

One-on-one session with a certified GLA:D® provider to assess your movement and tailor the program to your needs.

  • Confirm your osteoarthritis diagnosis.

  • Assess your current function and mobility.

  • Create a personalized exercise program tailored to your specific needs.

Week 1: Education Sessions

Knowledge is power when it comes to managing osteoarthritis. The GLA:D® program includes two group education sessions, each lasting one hour, where you’ll learn about:

  • The diagnosis and implications of osteoarthritis.

  • Evidence-based treatment options available.

  • Risk factors and how to reduce them.

  • Self-management strategies to control symptoms and enhance daily living.

Weeks 2-7: Exercise Sessions

Regular, targeted exercise is crucial for managing osteoarthritis. The program includes:

  • 12 group exercise sessions, held twice a week for six weeks, focusing on exercises that build strength, increase flexibility, and improve joint function.

Ongoing monitoring: 3 Month Review

After completing the initial phase of the program, you’ll have a three-month review with your GLA:D® provider to:

  • Reassess your progress and improvements.

  • Discuss the next steps and any necessary adjustments to your exercise plan.

  • Ensure you’re on track to achieve your goals.
